Capcom Considering Current Multiplatform Games for Nintendo Switch

Could we see some of Capcom's big titles come to Switch?

As we get closer to the launch of the Nintendo Switch we learn a little more from developers about what their plans are for Nintendo’s new home console that is also a handheld.

There are plenty of developers supporting the Nintendo Switch and one of those big names is Capcom; of Resident Evil, Devil May Cry and Street Fighter fame.

Gamespot have reported on the translation of an update put out by Capcom in which it details its considerations for the new console. In these considerations, Capcom have detailed that they are looking into bringing its current multiplatform titles on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 to the Switch. This could refer to both already released and presently announced titles.

Of course, this could mean that a there could be a number of repetitious releases on the Switch and given the apathy for HD remasters (unless it’s Modern Warfare, then it’s fine, apparently) it may be a bad move to just re-release existing titles onto the Switch. Unless they are planning on doing something new and exciting with it. Given the rumored specifications, it would also indicate that if this were to happen, the games may lose something given the difference in capability between the Switch and the PS4/Xbox One.

Capcom’s statement does bring hope though:

“At Capcom, we determine which platform to release a title for after considering the features of both our software and the hardware in question, believing we must bring the enjoyment of our games to their maximum potential.”

Of course, it’s great that such a big developer is supporting the Switch and many of Nintendo’s previous console woes have been with a lack in big third-party support, but for me I want to see new games on the console. Not games that I may have already played or have as an option already on my existing console. I will be playing the unique games on the Switch and I hope it won’t be just Nintendo exclusives that I am playing on it, like so many Nintendo consoles before it.

We don’t know what games will be available for the Switch on launch (except for Zelda, though it could always be delayed too), but we will find out more, according to Nintendo, on January 12th. Will we see a Capcom game announced then? We will have to wait and see.
