Destiny: Iron Banner and Trials of Osiris Return

As the Taken King DLC approaches its one month anniversary, Bungie fuels the fire by announcing the return of Iron Banner and Trials of Osiris.

Lord Saladin will return with the Iron Banner event on October 13th, a mid range competitive Multiplayer event that spans the course of a week.  Seasoned vet?  Here are a few changes you should know.

trials 2

  • The tempered buff is now automatically applied.  It will continue to become more effective each day of the event
  • The Alt-Character catch up buff and Iron Medallion mechanics are unchanged.
  • Potential match completion rewards now include both weapons and armor.  These pieces will match what Lord Saladin has available during each event.
  • Drop rates have been increased and are intended to be a primary source of rewards from Iron Banner.
  • You may still purchase gear from Lord Saladin using the new Legendary Marks.
  • New bounties include 9 daily bounties (3 per day) and 3 new weekly bounties which will reward legendary marks.
  • Power still matters.  The damage curve will be adjusted to work with the new light measurement system.
  • Recommended light level for Iron Banner is 230 and only level 40 guardians can lead a fire team.

Brother Vance will make his return the same weekend with the Trial of Osiris returning on October 16th.  This is a high level, competitive multiplayer, weekend event.  Again, this encounter now features a couple of changes:

trials 1

  • Trials gear will now drop exclusively as end-of-match rewards for the winning teams.  The more you win, the better the drops will be.
  • Players will not need to return to Brother Vance.  Rewards will be added directly to your inventory.
  • Passage Coins will still drop for the losing team.
  • Trials Passages now have a details page displaying your active buffs.
  • Buffs will NOT be able to be added after you have started your Trials.  Make sure you buy them first.
  • Players who go undefeated will still be invited to the lighthouse.
  • Brother Vance now has Trials Bounties available each weekend.  This will provide players with a way to get Trials gear, even if they don’t make it to the lighthouse.
  • Matchmaking will now attempt to match teams with similar win counts.  Meaning if you have 1 win, they will try to match you with another team that has 1 win.  If you have 8 wins…  Yup, you’ll face a matched challenger.
  • The recommended light level for Trials of Osiris is 290.  Only a player with a light level of 251 or higher can lead a fire team.

All in all, I think these are some good changes.  It’s looking like October will be a great month in the world of Destiny. Happy Hunting Guardians.
