Game of Thrones’ final season will air in 2019

Game of Thrones' final season
Worth the wait?

One of the most popular series in existence right now is undoubtedly Game of Thrones. Based on George R.R. Martin’s epic novels titled A Song of Ice and Fire, Game of Thrones has followed a massive cast through murder, magic, betrayal, love and more. Yet all things must come to an end and this is no exception. HBO has confirmed that Game of Thrones’ final season will be aired at some point in 2019, meaning that 2018 will be the first year since the series launched in 2011 that we won’t have a new yearly season.

Here’s the announcement that was made via Twitter:

HBO’s announcement article also gives us confirmation of who will be writing this season:

David Benioff & D.B. Weiss, David Nutter and Miguel Sapochnik will be the directors for the new season. Writers for the new season are David Benioff & D.B. Weiss, Bryan Cogman and Dave Hill.

While it’s definitely disappointing that we won’t have a new season this year, maybe this means that George R.R. Martin will finally be able to complete at least one more of the books before the TV series ends, as Game of Thrones overtook it’s source material at the end of Season 5 back in 2015.

The wait will definitely be rough but after the craziness of last year’s season, I’m still definitely eager. Let’s hope it’ll be worth the wait.
