A new system is now in place that will change that though, with Microsoft introducing ‘Operator Billing’ which allows you to use your phone number to pay for games with the charges going onto your phone bill instead. Here’s how it works:
In case you’ve never heard of Operator Billing, it’s one of the most popular payment methods around the world because it doesn’t require a credit card. Today, many Xbox gamers use their phone number to pay for games, movies, TV shows and much more, and have the charges added directly to their phone bill. Best of all, once this payment method is added to a Microsoft Account, all future purchases can be charged automatically.
If your phone service is through one of the below providers, you can start using this service today via the Xbox Store, and the Xbox App on Windows 10, iOS, and Android devices. If your provider is not listed below Xbox are working on signing up more partners to this service soon so stand by for further updates.

To use this service go to the game you would like to purchase and select:
- Buy
- Choose “Add a new payment method’
- Select “Mobile phone.”
- Pick your mobile operator and enter your phone number to receive a verification code
- When you receive the code, enter it on your Xbox
