Phil Spencer Talks Xbox 2017 Lineup

Xbox 2017 Lineup
Halo Wars 2 is the first of many exclusives arriving on Xbox this year

Yesterday, Phil Spencer gave an update on the Xbox Wire, detailing just how the team at Xbox is approaching the gaming year. He mentioned that the team was celebrating the early access launch of Halo Wars 2. Phil explains that he is proud of the work Creative Assembly and 343 Industries have accomplished. With Halo Wars 2, the Xbox 2017 lineup is off to a great start. In addition, it supports Xbox Play Anywhere, giving gamers an option as to where they want to play. However, he makes it clear that this is only the beginning.

Phil goes on to say that he believes “2017 is shaping up to be one of the most exciting years ever for Xbox gamers“. Xbox is launching Project Scorpio this holiday, which he reaffirms will be the most powerful console ever. That said, they aren’t just emphasizing hardware. According to Phil, they will have a diverse lineup of games alongside Project Scorpio. He goes on to say that “In fact, we are committed to delivering even more exclusive games for both Xbox One and Windows 10 this year than we launched in 2016.”

Crackdown 3, Sea of Thieves, State of Decay 2 are all coming along well in their development. Of particular note is how Sea of Thieves is taking a community development approach, as feedback is gathered from players in the technical alpha. Evidently we will learn more about these titles at E3.

In addition, Phil mentions his excitement at two returning original Xbox games: Voodoo Vince and Phantom Dust. Both of these games will be available on Xbox One and Windows 10 through Xbox Play Anywhere. Specifically, Phantom Dust will support crossplay, while Voodoo Vince will also be available to gamers on Steam.

Phil also mentions the success of the ID@Xbox program. Currently, Cuphead, Below, Thimbleweed Park and Tacoma are all coming from independent developers, with even more in store for the Xbox 2017 lineup of games.

Backwards Compatibility is also mentioned, with Phil reaffirming the team’s commitment to the program. Additions like the Bioshock and Mass Effect trilogies are great for gamers. He also mentions their third-party relations, with games like For Honor, Mass Effect: Andromeda, Prey and more, all coming to the Xbox platform in the coming months.

Phil Spencer closes by thanking the community for their support and reiterating that “…2017 is going to be an incredible year for Xbox One and Windows 10 gamers.”

Quite a bit to look forward to from Xbox. With everything announced, the Xbox 2017 lineup of games is looking great. Certainly, they seem committed to providing a significant amount of content and updates for gamers in the next few months. Hopefully we’ll see even more on the announced games, and perhaps some surprises, in the months leading up to E3. For the full details of Phil’s statements, be sure to check the Xbox Wire.
