Pokémon Sun/Moon to get Nintendo Switch version?

For those not currently enjoying Pokémon Sun/Moon, there may soon be another version of the game worth picking up. The difference is that it may be playable on Nintendo’s newest home console: the Switch.

According to multiple Eurogamer sources, the Switch version is already well into development, has an expected launch date of 2017, and is currently being developed under the name Pokémon Stars.

Much like past iterations where there was the third version of the particular generation (Crystal, Emerald, Yellow, etc.), Stars will serve as another iteration in that long-lasting trend. Nintendo apparently shared development time between the 3DS and Switch versions, with Game Freak focusing their efforts on the Switch now that the 3DS version has released.

Some particularly eagle-eyed Eurogamer workers were able to snag some quick screenshots from Sun/Moon’s February teaser where there appears to be a fully-HD model of the new bird Pokémon Pikipek. The outside sources claim that this is an in-game model for the Switch version:

For those concerned that Sun/Moon won’t receive patches or additional work needn’t fret, as this is the customary way Game Freak has developed third versions in the past. Besides, outside of some higher-definition textures and environments, the game will likely look the same.

The release date was expected to be sometime in Summer 2017, but has been delayed to later in the year. It’ll depend on how patient you’re willing to be in regards to Sun/Moon: pick it up now or wait approximately a year to pick it up on the Nintendo home console. I’m sure that regardless of where you play, there’ll be plenty of enjoyment to be had for all Nintendo fans.

What do you guys think about Pokémon Sun/Moon going to the Switch? Are you going to wait for the Switch version or are you already playing on the 3DS? Let us know in the comments what you think about the game so far!
