Shadow of War – Forthog Orcslayer is a touching tribute

The highly anticipated Lord of the Rings game, Middle-earth: Shadow of War is almost upon us. Despite being just over a month away, developers Monolith Productions have released a DLC trailer. That’s right, the game will have Day One DLC which is usually a cause of great annoyance for many gamers. This, however, is not your usual Day One DLC. Forthog Orc-Slayer is more than just an extra character. It’s a touching tribute to a man who was instrumental in the games production. Executive Producer at Monolith Productions, Michael David Forgey tragically lost his battle with cancer during the development of Shadow of War. This DLC is dedicated entirely to him and his family.

The trailer shows off Forthog Orc-Slayer who is described as: “A legend among the Orcs of Mordor, Forthog Orc-Slayer is an unstoppable warrior who saves Mordor’s mightiest heroes at their moment of greatest need.”

At the end of the trailer, there is a tribute to him which reads:

“Forthog Orc-Slayer. Forever. Nothing will be forgotten.

“Mike “Forthog” Forgey was our Executive Producer and great friend here at Monolith. We lost Mike to cancer during the development of Shadow of War and we want to remember and honor him with a little bit of immortality in Mordor.

“WB Games will donate $3.50 of every Forthog Orc Slayer purchase to the Forgey family through December 31, 2019.”

The DLC will cost $4.99 and 70% of the cost will go directly to Mike Forgey’s family for all sales of the DLC through to the end of 2019. This is a classy move from both Monolith and WB Games which shows that the people behind the games really matter.

Mike Forgey worked on numerous games including Fable, Perfect Dark Zero and Gears of War 2.
