Starter Evolutions for Pokémon Sun/Moon and More

To start off the day we were treated to a new video showing the first evolution of the new starters from Pokémon Sun/Moon. They also unveiled a new social interactive area called Festival Plaza and also a space for the Pokémon in your PC to go and explore. Finishing off the video we also got the date for when you can download the Special Demo of Pokémon Sun/Moon and what Pokémon you can only get by playing this Demo.

We first get a look at Rowlet’s first evolution Dartrix, which has the typings of Grass/Flying and the ability Overgrow. Next is Litten’s first evolution, Torracat and it has the typing of Fire and the ability Blaze. Finally we see Popplio’s first evolution Brionne, which is a Water type with Torrent as the ability. An interesting thing in the video is that it shows off where you can pet your Pokémon in certain spots without it getting angry. In case you didn’t know Poke-amie is a way of bonding with your Pokémon by petting and feeding it.

Festival Plaza is a new way to connect with your friends and others players around the world. You earn a new type of currency called “Festival Coins” that can be used at shops in the Festival Plaza. Some of these shops and activities can increase the Effort Value of your Pokémon.

Poke Pelago, which is new to the series, is a way for your PC Pokémon to gather items, interact and attract wild Pokémon while you continue on your adventure. First you have Isle Abeens which is how you can attract some wild Pokémon and have them join you. Then you have Ilse Aphun where your Pokémon can explore caves and find items for you. Ilse Evelup which is where you can let your Pokémon go and train.

Mega evolution isn’t new to the series, but it is confirmed it’s making a comeback in Sun/Moon. The video shows that you’ll be using the Z-Ring to achieve Mega Evolution with your Pokémon.

Finally the video gives us the date and some info about the Pokémon Sun/Moon Special Demo. Starting on October 18, 2016 you can go to the Nintendo 3DS e-shop and download the demo. You’ll battle and explore a special portion of Sun/Moon and can even get the Pokémon you’ll be using in the demo. You’ll be able to use a very special Greninja that has the ability Battle Bond. This new ability will transform your Greninja to Ash-Greninja whenever it knocks out an opponent’s Pokémon.

Also on a side note there are some Legendary Pokémon you can get via Mystery Gift for Pokémon X, Pokémon Y, Pokémon Omega Ruby, and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire. First you can get Keldeo, which is this month’s main legendary Pokémon, by going to Mystery Gift > Get via Internet. This Keldeo is Lvl. 100 and knows Aqua Jet, Leer, Double Kick, and Bubble Beam. You can get Keldeo until October 24, 2016. The next few Pokémon you can get by using Mystery Gift > Use a Code. “DARKRAI20” will get you an Lvl 100 Darkrai that knows Dark Void, Ominous Wind, Nightmare, and Feint Attack and is available until October 31, 2016. “2016HOOPA” will get you an Lvl 50 Hoopa that knows Hyperspace Hole, Psychic, Astonish, and Nasty Plot and is rumored to only be available until October 9, 2016. The last legendary Pokémon available is going to be a GameStop code Lvl 70 Volcanion with the moves Steam Eruption, Overheat, Hydro Pump, and Explosion.

What do you think of these first evolutions, new mechanics, or new ideas for the PC Pokémon? Did seeing the first evolutions make you change your mind on which Pokémon you’ll start with? Will you be playing the demo? Let us know in the comments or in the forums.
