Guardian Progress Does Not Carry Over to Destiny 2

While we’ve known for some time that Destiny 2 was in development, there haven’t been many solid details. However, we now have our first concrete piece of information about the game, thanks to this post by Bungie. They explain that Destiny 2 will be a clean slate and that as a result, none of your Guardian progress such as armor, weapons, currency, or anything else you’ve collected in the first Destiny, will carry over.

However, if your Guardian has reached level 20 and completed the Black Garden story mission, their custom appearance will be transferred. In addition, there will evidently be some other rewards. The post states that “We also plan to award those veteran accounts with honors that reflect your Destiny 1 accomplishments.”

I imagine gamers will have very mixed reactions to this. On the one hand, moving to a new game, it really is fair that everyone start off the same. However, some people grinded in missions for hundreds of hours. I doubt are they’ll be pleased they can’t keep their legendary items. There’s also the question of exactly what “honors” will be given to veterans. Hopefully Bungie gives us some more clarity in the coming months. Currently, Destiny 2 is slated to release this fall, so I can’t imagine we’ll be waiting much longer for information.
