Is a Tom Hardy / Christopher Nolan James Bond film on the cards?

Tom Hardy

What do the films Inception, The Dark Knight Rises and the upcoming Summer 2017 film Dunkirk all have in common? If you were to say they all feature Cillian Murphy and were directed by Christopher Nolan, then you’d be right. But not the kind of right I was looking for. What I actually wanted, if the title of this article wasn’t a giveaway was that they are all directed by Christopher Nolan and featured Tom Hardy.

The point is these 2 have worked together on a few films and look likely to work on more, as mentioned including the to-be Summer blockbuster Dunkirk, which is the story of the mass evacuation of Allied soldiers from the British Empire (back when it was an empire), Canada and France who were surrounded by the German army in Belgium during the early years of World War II.

Anyway, during an interview with Hardy on The Daily Beast, they mentioned Nolan’s desire to direct a James Bond film, and Hardy was, shall we say keen on the idea, saying,

“Oh, wow, Chris would be amazing! Wow, that would be cool. That would be so cool… I wonder what the next installment of that franchise would become, and I think when you mention someone like Christopher Nolan, that’s a very powerful figure to bring into that world who could bring something new and create something profound – again.”

Then of course came the obvious line of questioning, Tom Hardy is a young British actor with the world seemingly at his feet, and with Daniel Craig appearing less than enthused at the thought of being Bond again, or is he, that seems to change every couple of months, Hardy was asked about his interest in playing Bond, which he confirmed by denying…

“You know, there’s a saying among us in the fraternity of acting, and in the fellowship of my peer group, that if you talk about it you’re automatically out of the race… So I can’t possibly comment on that one! If I mention it, it’s gone.”

So by refusing to properly comment, and specifically refusing to declare his interest he has loop-holed his way into confirming his interest in being the next James Bond – which I think we can all agree would be a great sight to see, and with Nolan possibly directing? Could we be in line to see a new breed of James Bond films?

The next James Bond film is thought to return for its 25th outing in 2018, so if this is still expected to happen actors and directors had better be lined up sooner than later.

What do you think about Tom Hardy potentially filling the shoes of the world’s greatest secret agent? Also, what do you think of the possibility of it being directed by Christopher Nolan? Let us know in the comments below, the RGM Forums or on Twitter.
