Halo Wars Definitive Edition Available Now for Digital Preorder Customers

Get practicing before the release of Halo Wars 2

It seems to be an increasing trend that remastered editions of games are being included with new releases. Although we are living in a remasterful world of gaming at the moment, when those remasters are included for free. Whether as an incentive to buy or just something nice, it’s always appreciated.

Halo Wars 2 isn’t due to release until February 21st but if you’ve preordered the Halo Wars 2 Ultimate Digital Edition then you should be receiving a lovely message just in time or Christmas. Preorderers should be receiving their digital copy of Halo Wars: Definitive Edition, the remaster of the original Xbox 360 version Halo Wars from 2009. The Definitive Edition will be an Xbox Play Anywhere title meaning that for first time, Halo Wars, will be playable on PC as well as Xbox One.

The remastered edition includes all of the DLC from the original game as well as new achievements. If you preordered the Ultimate Edition of Halo Wars 2 before December 14th from the Microsoft Store you will be eligible.

Dan Ayoub, Studio Head from 343 Industries, commented on the upcoming release as ON MSFT reported:

“Halo Wars: Definitive Edition is set to launch in February alongside Halo Wars 2 Ultimate Edition, but we thought it would be great to give everyone a chance to start playing now to sharpen their skills in preparation for the next game. The game you’ll get today is early access – it’s only available to people who pre-ordered the digital version of Halo Wars 2 Ultimate Edition. It also means that we’re still putting the finishing touches on the game before launch, so expect to see more improvements come online between now and February. The team worked insanely hard to bring both campaign and multiplayer online before release in February and we can’t wait to hear what you think.”

So don’t expect perfection from your early access, 343 Industries will be tweaking it going forward. Either way, it should be pretty good to go, it’s a great game so who wouldn’t want to play it again.
