Guerrilla Games: No Microtransactions in Horizon: Zero Dawn

Horizon Zero Dawn's story

With the upcoming Horizon: Zero Dawn, Sony may have a game-changing new IP that helps establish the PS4’s legitimacy even further. That being said, it’s important that developer Guerrilla Games handles the game correctly on both the player side AND the business side. The game seems to look and play very well, but will players have to pay more than $60 to get the full experience?

While there’ll likely be some future DLC to expand on the main story, Guerrilla Games has confirmed that microtransactions will not get in the way of players’ experiences.

On Twitter, Guerrilla responded to a tweet asking them if there would be any microtransactions within the game. They responded with this quote:

@hot40chef There will be no micro transactions in #HorizonZeroDawn

There’s some good news! This is the best business decision for Guerrilla to make. With new IP’s, it’s essential that the game makes a great first impression, and this decision helps establish a sense of legitimacy. Games like Rise of the Tomb Raider, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, and numerous others lost favor with many gamers when microtransactions were introduced, so clearly Guerrilla didn’t want to make that same mistake.

Side note: It’s sad that this is somewhat out of the ordinary for games nowadays. Major developers need to follow suit and make this practice the norm.
