CD Projekt RED is Aiming High for Cyberpunk 2077

CD Projekt RED, the polish developer responsible for the wonderful Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, is working on their next project titled, Cyberpunk 2077. Not much is known yet about the game, however, the developer wants to make this game even bigger than The Witcher 3. Poland in general, is looking to make a stronger foothold in the gaming industry with the GameINN program. Here is some information about the program courtesy of Gamepressure:

GameINN program led by the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR) in Poland aims at increasing the competitiveness of the Polish gaming industry on the global market by 2023. The program came to life thanks to the initiative of Porozumienie Polskie Gry [Polish Games Accord], which consists of CD PROJEKT RED, Techland, 11 bit studios, CI Games, and People Can Fly, just to name a few.”

CD Projekt RED applied for a grant for their next title to create a living city. Here is the translation that Gamepressure posted from polish to english about the grant:

a complex technology for creating a huge living city, playable in real time, which [the technology] is based on rules, AI, and automation, and supports innovative processes and tools for making top-notch open-world games”

Now this is all just speculation but imagine if they get this grant and are able to create a huge city like this with inhabitants living their own lives? It would dwarf what they did in The Witcher 3 and that’s no easy feat. That is not all though, CD Projekt RED is also looking to try to implement seamless multiplayer into their game, here is another excerpt from the translation:

Seamless Multiplayer, „a complex technology for making unique multiplayer gameplay mechanics, including the ability to search for opponents, manage game session, replicate objects, and support for different game modes along with a unique set of dedicated tools.”

So what is CD Projekt RED looking to create for Cyberpunk 2077? It looks like their previous efforts were stepping-stones towards something much greater. I for one, am extremely intrigued by Cyberpunk 2077 and hope they do in fact get the grant money they need to create what they are envisioning. CD Projekt RED has already proved they can make great quality games, now let’s see what they can do if they get this grant, odds are it’s going to be another game of the year contender for sure.
