Gears of War 4 is rapidly approaching release date and many people have it preordered and downloaded digitally on their Xbox Ones. If you are like me, you may be waiting on a physical copy of the game. If you plan on purchasing a physical copy, an 11 gig day one patch will be required. Rod Fergusson clarified this on twitter with the following tweet:
To clarify – if digital, no day one patch since all 54.6 gigs are downloaded. If physical disk then there will be 11 gig download.

So why does the physical copy need a day one patch? It’s simply because The Coalition couldn’t fit the entire game on the disc. Standard dual-layered Blu-ray discs can only hold 50 gigs of data and the digital download itself is 54.6 gigs. The Coalition had to resort to placing a portion of the game data as a day one patch. At least we know that there’s nothing wrong with the game that needs a fix and it is in fact, a complete game arriving on launch day which is rare this generation.
Are you purchasing Gears of War 4 on disc or digitally? If you purchase it digitally you will get a free copy to use on Windows 10 with the “Play Anywhere” program. Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below or in the RGM forums.
