Oh. Hello there. I didn't see you walk in! Come in, come in. Take a seat old bean, and let me tell you something. On 14th June 2016 for 3 days, the high-point of the video-gaming calendar will take place at the in Los Angeles Convention Center - the Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3.
Now I'm not actually here for a few days, 10 days including today in fact. So this is the first of 10 articles going over the last 10 E3's, the highs, the lows, the big reveals, and we can look back on these as we approach E3 2016. So, without much further ado, here is a look at E3 2006.
The main focus of E3 in 2006 was of course the then upcoming 7th Gen consoles from Nintendo and Sony, namely the Nintendo Wii and the Sony PlayStation 3. If there were any winners of E3 2006, you could strongly argue the case for Nintendo, if only due to the amount of demand there was for people wanting to have a go themselves - that's not mentioning Sony's...ahem...lacklustre presentation, with it's most memorable moment perhaps being the mention of the "Giant Enemy Crab" in the middle of describing Genji 2 as "historically accurate"...Google it.
Microsoft were there as well, with kingpin Bill Gates announcing plans to integrate the Xbox 360 with Windows Vista (which sounds extremely similar to Microsofts plans to integrate Xbox One with Windows 10...), and promising more Xbox Live Arcade games.
There are always top game announcements at E3 and 2006 was no exception, way back in 2006 we got our first look and announcements of the following games, with only trailers and screenshots to tide us over until their release, and you could quite easily argue are now classics.
- Assassin's Creed
- Gears of War
- Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas
- Super Mario Galaxy
- Mass Effect
- Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
- Company of Heroes
- Halo 3
- Call of Duty 3
- Grand Theft Auto IV
Before this E3, we lived a world where Mass Effect, BioShock and GTA IV were nothing more than rumour, if that and a world where Call of Duty was a World War 2 games franchise without a glimpse of Modern Warfare. Now look how far we've come.
Have I missed anything? What was your favourite game that came out of E3 2006? Have I missed any games that had their first showing or mention at E3 2006? Let us know in the comments below or in the RGM Forums.
