Latest Fallout Shelter Update Adds Pets

Has your vault gone to the dogs (or cats)? To conclude 2015, Fallout Shelter publisher Bethesda has announced a new update for the game, with some pretty awesome new features – including pets!

According to Bethesda, Vault-Tec research has shown that 4-legged companions can have a profound impact on Vault happiness and productivity. Pets improve particular aspects of vault dwellers, like increasing production, lowering training time, and even boosting healing rates. Vault-Tec will even give you one free pet. You can purchase others similar to the way you purchase Vault-Tec lunch boxes. Just like armor and weapons, there are common, rare, and unique varieties of pets. Here are some we got out of their pet carriers.

Pets are equipped like weapons or armor, and you can also view your collection in the inventory screen.

And naturally, the dweller’s pet will stay by his or her owner’s side, keeping them company in the sometimes dreary vault setting.

In addition to pets, the update also adds a few new features:

  • Since some lazy dwellers haven’t been pulling their weight, overseers are now authorized to permanently boot less-than-productive workers (welcome to the Wasteland, slackers)!
  • Dwellers have finally learned some new ways to impress other dwellers and the opposite sex; more conversations have been added.
  • Excessive tapping causing frustration when trying to clear out excess inventory? Overseers will love the new sell all options. Vault-Tec also added a “sell all common” button for dwellers returning from a long haul in the Wasteland.
  • Dweller management improvements and new objectives should help experienced Overseers keep things running smoothly.
