Mario and Rabbids Kingdom Battle launch trailer looks off the wall

Mario and Rabbids Kingdom Battle. Now doesn’t that just sound like the ramblings of one of the improvised inter-dimensional TV shows from Rick and Morty? Sometimes in life and gaming, a concept is born which is so ridiculous that it works. It’s because of its ridiculous nature that it works. The pairing of Mario and Rabbids appears to be one such combination. Mario and Rabbids Kingdom Battle is a turn-based strategy, and as a result has been compared to the XCOM games. While this seems like an odd comparison, the 2 games do appear to be cut from similar cloth.

Mario and Rabbids Kingdom Battle is out now and if the trailer is anything to go by, it looks absolutely off the wall. Check it out below.

The official description of the game (and a little into why their worlds collided) states:

“The Mushroom Kingdom has been torn apart by a mysterious vortex, transporting the chaotic Rabbids into this once-peaceful land. To restore order, Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Yoshi must team up with a whole new crew: four Rabbids heroes! Together, they will battle with weapons through four worlds filled with combat, puzzles, and unpredictable enemies.

“Developed exclusively for the Nintendo Switch™ system, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is the best of the Mario and Rabbids franchises, combining all that you love about Mario’s iconic universe with the side-splitting antics of the Rabbids.”

Mario and Rabbids Kingdom Battle had a successful E3, winning 2 Game Critics Awards. Winning Best Strategy Game, they also beat of games like Detroit: Become Human and Sea of Thieves to grab Best Original Game. With this kind of hype from E3, and knowing Nintendo’s track record with Mario games, this should be one of the games of the year.

You can buy Mario and Rabbids Kingdom Battle digitally on the Nintendo Store or physically at many retailers for $59.99.
