Considering how popular the original Series of Unfortunate Events series was, I’m surprised it took this long for Netflix to get permission to use the license. Well, twelve years after the film version came out starring Jim Carrey, Neil Patrick Harris is ready to give his interpretation of the infamous Count Olaf. He is joined by the three Baudelaire children (quick mention that the child actress playing Violet looks REALLY similar to the actress playing Violet in the movie version) and a slew of great talent spread out throughout the cast.

This trailer definitely shows the tone that’ll likely be present throughout the season: quirky, fun humor with plenty of dark moments throughout. It also seems that Harris’s natural comedic skills will come in handy once Olaf starts wearing his many disguises as the season will progress. Visually, Lemony Snicket’s ASOUE looks visually striking and seems to have gone directly to the books for many of the locations that are present.

It remains to be seen if Harris will pull off Count Olaf better than Jim Carrey and do the book version justice (it’s a big part, so it’ll be no easy task), but it seems that this series will be something both delightful and, as Lemony Snicket would put it, rather unfortunate.
