Star Citizen single player campaign has been delayed to 2017

The Star Citizen single player campaign “Squadron 42” has been delayed to 2017 according to this article from mcvuk.com.

At the recent Star Citizen Citizencon event it was announced today by Cloud Imperium Games (CIG) that Squadron 42 would not meet the 2016 release date that was originally set for Star Citizen. However this was not due to a lack of technology that is already very much present within the game, but more to do with mission integration and AI logic.

CIG is currently responsible to bring 1 of Squadon 42’s 28 chapters up to “release quality” which will then be released for public viewing. The obvious concern here is that they are yet to polish off just one of these chapters, so is even a 2017 release date being ambitious for a game of such vast scope?

When CIG CEO, Chris Roberts, was closing the Citizencon event he detailed Star Citizen’s future, incoming updates and some new features which he was able to show off. The one thing that was missing however was a solid release date for Star Citizen, but for now we’ll have to make do with 2017…ish.

Star Citizen (when it’s fully released) I think looks to have all the potential to be one of those games that defines a generation. And if they need to delay the release date in order to perfect it, then more the better. Let us know in the comments below, the RGM Forums or on Twitter.
